Isaias remnants bring tornadoes to southeastern NC; Pender County tornado caused no damage, NWS says

The remnants of Hurricane Isaias, which made landfall near Pensacola, Florida, on October 9, swept across North Carolina on Sunday, October 11, producing tornadoes along a line of storms that crossed the state. Statewide there were 13 tornadoes, a record for a single day from a tropical system in North Carolina, WRAL reported.

In the area served by the National Weather Service office in Wilmington, surveyors confirmed an EF-0 tornado (75 mph) that tracked 1.68 miles near East Arcadia in Bladen County and a brief EF-0 (80 mph) near Clarendon in Columbus County that destroyed several open farm buildings. A trained spotter reported a tornado near Rankin Street and Beatty's Bridge Road in Atkinson, Pender County, at 1:18 p.m., WECT reported. The weather service said its team found no damage there and that the circulation likely remained broad and elevated as it moved into northwestern Pender County.

Before the storm, the weather service had issued a flood watch for Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties and forecast 2 to 6 inches of rain, Port City Daily reported. Several weekend events in the region were canceled or postponed.
